Klein Poelhuis builts a new care home for Dimence in Almelo, the Netherlands: a project that was fully implemented in Revit by the construction team. Klein Poelhuis is making good use of Stabicad for Revit. For Dimence Real Estate the premise underlying the project is that it should be a sustainable building with flexibility of function. The building was ultimately designed so that, with minimal adjustment, the functionality can be adjusted using a grid pattern based on function (office, clinic, apartment, etc.). The installation system is also flexibly designed. So each wing is separately metered and, depending on the function, the central heating/cooling and electricity are easily modified.
Klein Poelhuis Installatietechniek presents itself as a provider of total solutions in installation technology. This must have an effect on the way the engineers do their work. We talked about this with Andre ter Riet (Head of Projects) and Peter ter Braak (Head of Engineering). “Several years ago, Klein Poelhuis made the strategic decision to implement BIM and lean as working methods in the organization. Because of our active approach, early on we could participate in BIM projects. In the first instance with Stabicad for AutoCAD: we were able to progress quite a long way in a
BIM project. But when the 3D models got larger and there were more floors, the Revit platform provided great value. So now we’ve chosen to develop our BIM projects fully with Stabicad for Revit. Our first Revit project (in 2009!) was the High Tech Factory. In this project, architectural models and a model by the consultant were delivered in Revit format.”
The BIM approach is all about changing your own processes, cooperation and shared responsibility for achieving good buildings.
